Earth Day Tree Planting & Celebration

  • The Reed Center for Ecosystem Reintegration 1932 Mountain Church Road Middletown, MD, 21769 United States (map)

Celebrate Earth Day in style! Bring family & friends and join us for a massive 12-acre tree-planting at Morning View Food Forest!

The tree-planting events on Friday and Saturday will provide an amazing opportunity for attendees to learn and practice specific skills, while simultaneously gaining an appreciation of what is involved in large scale volunteer-based planting operations.

Our goal for this weekend will be to plant 5,000 trees and shrubs on 12 acres with the help of students and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, in collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF). The Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s mission is to restore the Chesapeake Bay, and the rivers and stream ecosystems that feed into it.

On Saturday, there will be three one-hour workshops in which students can learn tools and techniques for grafting and plant propagation methods using cuttings and layering. These easy-to-learn ways of propagating plants are vital next steps in making our communities more resilient.

On Saturday night, we'll be hosting a live music concert in honor of our dear friend: Terrence E. Brown.

We anticipate having a vendor on-site for snacks and drinks on Saturday; however, we strongly encourage participants to bring their own food and beverages to meet their own nutritional needs throughout the weekend.

Folks are also invited to bring their own equipment to camp overnight at our hilltop camp sites with spectacular sunrise views.
