Supporting the Bees

  • The Reed Center for Ecosystem Reintegration 1932 Mountain Church Road Middletown, MD, 21769 United States (map)

In an era of rapidly declining insect populations, we need to develop "refugee camps" for these vital living beings where they can escape the war zones that dominate current landscapes.

In this class we will be building our own bee hotels, and we'll be exploring specific practices we can use in our own yards to create sanctuaries and support the health and well-being of bees and other insects. Our guest teacher, Kypriana, will be showing us how to keep honey bees naturally.

Please bring your own lunch/supper and water bottle, a notebook, something to write with, warm layers, and durable shoes or boots. We will be providing light snacks, water, coffee, and tea. Following this event, we will have a Films in the Forest showing of My Garden of a Thousand Bees.

Anyone attending this class is welcome to come to the film on a donations basis! For those who are working toward a PDC, the film and discussion will be worth an additional 2.5 PDC Credit hours.

This class counts toward the permaculture design certification, if you have signed up to take the PDC.

There are 6 PDC credit hours given for attending this class.

All classes are offered on a sliding scale pricing model; please pay at the rate that is within the means of your lived reality. If you are financially comfortable, we invite you to pay at the higher rate to support our efforts growing this vision. If you are coming from experience with structural marginalization or other economically-challenging circumstances, we invite you to pay at the lowest end of the sliding scale or to reach out to inquire about work trade opportunities.
